WLD101 Introduction to Welding 3 Credits

Introduction to safe operation of shop equipment and common joining and thermal cutting processes used in the welding industry. It is designed to provide a brief exposure to the SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, OFW, OFC, PAC processes while developing incremental hands-on skills through sequenced lab experiences.

Introduction to arc welding with emphasis in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to cut and prepare weld joints utilizing current technology. Develops hands-on skills through sequenced lab experiences.

WLD106AC SMAW 7018 Plate 5 Credits

Continued training in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) with emphasis on using E7018 (low hydrogen) electrodes in all joint positions. Focus is on fillet welds and groove weld joints with backing to prepare students for welding code certification testing.

Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in WLD106AA or permission of Instructor.

WLD106AD SMAW Introduction to Pipe 5 Credits

Advanced training in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) with emphasis on pipe welding using E6010 and E7018 electrodes in various pipe joint positions (1G, 2G, 5G, 6G). Focus is on the open root groove pipe weld joints to prepare students for industry code certification.

Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in WLD106AA or permission of Instructor.

Course Notes: In addition to taking the WLD106AA as a prerequisite, it is strongly suggested that the student also completes WLD106AB and WLD106AC prior to enrolling into this pipe welding course.

WLD206AA Introduction to GMAW/FCAW and GTAW 5 Credits

Instruction in theory and practice of gas metal arc welding (GMAW, commonly referred to as MIG), flux cored arc welding (FCAW), and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW, commonly referred to as TIG). Basic welding procedures on ferrous and nonferrous metals. Setup and operation of welding process equipment. Covers selection of proper filler materials and shielding gas options.

A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites: WLD101 or permission of Instructor. Prerequisites or Corequisites: WLD106AA or permission of Instructor.
